Know When to Surrender...

This painting seemed like it wanted to go in this direction. I admire classical and photo realistic artist and I am very clear that I am not one of them. I don’t have the patients or the skill. I occasionally find with some of my portraits that I start to get tight and unable to resolve the painting so that it fits with my original intent. That’s when the palette knife returns to scape all of the paint of the canvas. I am holding  judgement on this until next week to see if I like it better then.

Feeling Trapped by Realism Pull Out the Palette Kn...

With every painting there is a point that I feel that I am getting trapped by something. In this series it is realism. I’ve begun to lose abstract feel of the acrylic layout, which was something I didn’t want to do. So I started working with a palette knife.

Painting and Finding Yourself Lost...

The way this little painting is going was not where I wanted it to go. Happens all the time but is always a pain.

Working Backwards...

When I started out to paint this little portrait I had no idea what I wanted to do. Now that I’ve painted in a darkgrey background I am starting see what the face might actually be. On to the next step.

The Start of Something New...

I like to compare how I start out painting a portrait against the finished painting.
