I’m Not Finished Yet ?...

I like the changes that I’ve made and feel that time was well spent just letting the painting sit for a couple of days before going back to work on. This may not work for everyone and I’ve had experience when I began to rush a spoil a painting just so that I could say I’m finished with.

Take a Break...

I don’t believe that I can understand what I am doing unless I have some time to reflect and I want to be painting as many hours as I can. So I am taking a short break from the coffee cup painting and did a rough sketch of two older people. I’ve noticed that they don’t look as old as I wanted to make them and just giving them gray hair is not going to cut it. I look for for photos on line that I can use as reference. Anybody got any ideas on how I should continue let me know.

Making Stuff Up as I Go...

I feel that I am closer to where I want to be with this painting. I’m trying not to be annoyed with myself for all the changes and I think it is a good lesson for me.

Off with His Hat...

A palette knife can offer pleasing relief. I realized that I was not enjoying painting a guy with a hat and remembered something I once heard Harvey Dinnerstein say “Your the artist, make up what you want it to be”. While I was certain I understood what meant at the time, yesterday was possibly the first time I experienced it. Regardless of where this painting eventually ends up, I viewing it, at this early stage of development, as a gate way for what I intent to paint. I feel pretty good about where I’m at.

Resolving a Problem...

There seems that there is at least one area of a painting that is difficult to resolve and the more I work on it the more out joint it becomes. I rework this guy with the hat on in the foreground a number of times trying to find the size that would help balance the painting. I’m getting close but not there yet.

More Changes Needed...

I don’t notice somethings about my paintings until I set with them for a while. I’ve made some changes that seem like they should have obvious to me from the beginning.

More Changes...

I am working on 4 paintings at the same time, which I don’t think is unusual. I do it because it allows me to consider what I am trying do instead of rushing to finish one painting. Working this way the painting kind of evolve or not.

Revisionist Painting...

Took a break and then made changes.

Looking For A Focus...

I am at a stage with this painting that cause me the most problems and that is deciding on what I should really focus on and what to leave vague. Taking these photo of the painting in progress helps a lot.

I changed the positions of some of the heads and added more color which re-focuses the the painting I think.

Odd, I’ve just noticed that I’ve framed the boarder of the room equally which I don’t think I want to keep.

Finding Hitchcock...

I working towards painting myself into the painting.
