A palette knife can offer pleasing relief. I realized that I was not enjoying painting a guy with a hat and remembered something I once heard Harvey Dinnerstein say “Your the artist, make up what you want it to be”. While I was certain I understood what meant at the time, yesterday was possibly the first time I experienced it. Regardless of where this painting eventually ends up, I viewing it, at this early stage of development, as a gate way for what I intent to paint. I feel pretty good about where I’m at.
