Off with His Hat...

A palette knife can offer pleasing relief. I realized that I was not enjoying painting a guy with a hat and remembered something I once heard Harvey Dinnerstein say “Your the artist, make up what you want it to be”. While I was certain I understood what meant at the time, yesterday was possibly the first time I experienced it. Regardless of where this painting eventually ends up, I viewing it, at this early stage of development, as a gate way for what I intent to paint. I feel pretty good about where I’m at.

More Changes Needed...

I don’t notice somethings about my paintings until I set with them for a while. I’ve made some changes that seem like they should have obvious to me from the beginning.

More Changes...

I am working on 4 paintings at the same time, which I don’t think is unusual. I do it because it allows me to consider what I am trying do instead of rushing to finish one painting. Working this way the painting kind of evolve or not.

Feeling Trapped by Realism Pull Out the Palette Kn...

With every painting there is a point that I feel that I am getting trapped by something. In this series it is realism. I’ve begun to lose abstract feel of the acrylic layout, which was something I didn’t want to do. So I started working with a palette knife.

Painting and Finding Yourself Lost...

The way this little painting is going was not where I wanted it to go. Happens all the time but is always a pain.

Working Backwards...

When I started out to paint this little portrait I had no idea what I wanted to do. Now that I’ve painted in a darkgrey background I am starting see what the face might actually be. On to the next step.

The Start of Something New...
